Movie #2 In the Mood For Love

(2000, China, d. Wong Kar-wai)

Okay let me preface this by saying that if you get bored at all with a lack of a solid plot or anything like that, don’t watch this. For everyone else, rent this movie. It’s all about subtlety. I gave this movie a second (better) viewing tonight and I honestly enjoyed it more than the first time I saw Kar-wai’s most known film Chungking Express. This movie’s musical sequences are absolutely beautiful and Tony Leung’s performance is a great anchor. The way Kar-wai can make a simple thing the most elegant thing in the world is just one of the reasons his films are renowned internationally.
