Movie #17 Audition

(1999, Japan, d. Takashi Miike)

So I started to watch this movie because it was on Tarantino’s top 20 films made after 1992 (the year he made his first feature). Let me just preface this by saying this is probably the most violent movie I’ve ever seen. People fainted in the festivals this was shown at and some critics even yelled at the director. But the movie only gets crazy like past three quarters of the way. The rest of the story is a delicate and slow buildup that puts you on such an uneasy edge, the movie is hard to watch alone. Seriously, I had to get a friend to finish this movie with.
