Movie #49 Kramer Versus Kramer

(1979, US, d. Robert Benton)

One of a few films with not only a perfect cast but a pitch-perfect screenplay, Kramer Versus Kramer ranks easily among my favorite films of all time. It’s one of those rare examples where I honestly couldn’t tell you what I would improve or how a scene could have been better. It’s like The Godfather: it’s near perfect. At the Oscars that year, the film picked up Best Director, Best Actor (for Dustin Hoffman), and Best Supporting Actress (for Meryl Streep), among other awards. It’s hard not to describe the force of that duo’s acting range without not making sense, so I’m going to use the same word I have been in this whole review: perfect.
